Boy Scout Troop 285 was first chartered by St. Mark Catholic Church in 1965. Since then, the organization has been providing boys a safe and fostering environment to grow into young men of character, faith, and integrity. Since the troop's inception, 149 scouts from Troop 285 have earned their Eagle Scout rank.
The aim of scouting is to develop boys by challenging them intellectually, physically, and spiritually with a fun-filled outdoor and service program.
Troop 285 meets weekly in the St. Mark Community Center. The troop is boy-led where the adults provide guidance and supervision. The boys plan monthly campouts or activities. Some of the past campout themes have included: Up In the Trees, Ziplining, Fishing, and Survivor Scout. In the summer, scouts have the opportunity to go to a week-long summer camp where they can earn merit badges such as Leatherworking, Fishing, Archery, and Geocaching. For boys who are 14 and older, there are opportunities to go on high adventure trips involving backpacking, canoeing, and scuba diving.
Youth can join a Boy Scout troop if: They have earned the Arrow of Light rank and are at least 10 years old,
or have completed the 5th grade and are at least 10,
or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old.
