St. Mark Catholic School’s Student Support Services is designed to meet the academic needs of our students with diagnosed learning differences. Our mission is to help students achieve their maximum potential by providing the support needed to be successful.
Resource Teachers
St. Mark Catholic School offers the services of three Resource Teachers to students who demonstrate a need for support. Our Resource and Instructional specialists are certified teachers who are trained in and provide instruction in the following programs.
- BUILD – K – 1 Early Reading Intervention
- Thouchphonics® Program – Multisensory approach to phonics
- The Herman Method® – Orton-Gillingham based multisensory approach to teaching specialized reading in small groups
- Scottish Rite/Rite Flight Reading Rate and Comprehension Program
- Small Group Guided Reading Instruction
- Multisensory Handwriting Without Tears® Program
- Multisensory Touchmath® Program
Content mastery and instructional support is provided in classrooms for kindergarten – 5th grade.
Dyslexia Therapy
Students with a diagnosis of dyslexia may receive interventions through our dyslexia therapy program. Our certified teachers provide dyslexia therapy using The Herman Method® based on the multisensory Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching. The curriculum provides instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, while also teaching spelling and writing.
Accommodations
To receive accommodations through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) the following requirements must be met:- Full current evaluation and documentation (must be updated every 3 years), including a clear diagnosis, and test scores of both cognitive and academic achievement
